Cherri House is coming to speak! Friday April 8th

Cherri House of Cherry House Quilts is coming to speak to the Philadelphia Modern Quilt Guild on Friday, April 8th at 7:30PM!!

Cherri is the author of the fantastic quilt book called City Quilts.

Cherri will be showing some of the quilts from "City Quilts" and she will discuss the use of solids in quilts. There will be copies of her book and patterns available for purchase at the event.

This event is free for all paid members of the Philadelphia Modern Quilt Guild.  Guests are welcome to attend for $5.

Location - Huntingdon Valley, PA

If you have any questions or would like to attend please e-mail phillymodernquiltguild@gmail.com.  Because there is a limited number of seats, the exact location will be provided upon request, rather than being posted on the web.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about the Philly Modern Quilt Guild and to meet an incredibly creative quilter!  Also, I highly recommend joining the guild, and this is a great opportunity to do it.  If you join before the event, you'll be able to get in free!

Fun Fabric Friday: 03/18/2011

I was recently browsing on Hawthorn Threads and I found Joel Dewberry's new fabric line called Aviary 2. I adore his recent lines (Deer Valley and Modern Meadow especially). I first saw his fabrics at Spool, in Philly. Laura made a beautiful quilt using Deer Valley. You can see a photo on flickr here. Ever since then I've wanted to do something similar, so I think Aviary 2 might provide the perfect inspiration. Here's a photo from fatquartershop.com:

Mid-Week Sneak Peek: 03/09/2011

So all I've been working on lately is my quilt for the Monochromatic challenge.  It's all shades of blue and it's taking a LONG time to do.  The nice thing is that as I sew the strips together, I am quilting it simultaneously because the strips are sewn right onto the quilt!  So when I'm done, I don't have to baste and and then quilt it (although I might add some quilting lines anyway).  Here's another photo - I finished the right hand side and I'm working on the left side.  I can't wait for it to be finished so I can see the final effect.

Update:  I forgot to mention that the dark blue fabric with little white flowers in it is from my last trip to Japan.  It was super cheap but I love it.  Something like $4 for 2 meters.  Most of the other fabrics are from a trip to Spool!

More work on my piece for the monochromatic challenge. Do you think this would be considered all blue?
